These are the biographies of the fictional characters who appear in Hilarity Ensues. If you are looking for information on the actors who play them, check out the CAST page, above.
These bios will be added to as we learn more about these characters. This is not a page for me to tell you their backstory; it's more a place for new readers to get up to speed.
(I guess I let a little bit of backstory creep in. Oh well.)
In order of appearance:
JAMES is an easy-going dude with dreams of stardom. All he wants to do is play his guitar and be adored for it. He wishes he was a little more experienced with the ladies, although he covers his inexperience with a great deal of charm and an outgoing attitude. It's questionable how far charm and a good attitude will take this energetic young man, however ... he may need to employ something a bit more substantial if he wants to make his dreams of success come true. His best friend is Aaron, and his loyalty to his childhood pal is fierce and unwavering.
AARON is two years out of high school and wishing he was anywhere but his hometown of Sacramento, California. Lucky for him, he's been accepted at a prestigious photography school up in Portland, Oregon. Unlucky for him is the fact that his girlfriend of almost two years, Elisabeth, is NOT moving to Portland with him. This has Aaron a little out of sorts. Should he be happy that he's moving and beginning the path to realizing his lifelong ambition to be a photographer? Or should he be sad that he's leaving the love of his life behind? Angry that she's decided not to come with him? Maybe he's just hungry? Aaron doesn't know what to feel, and so it seems he's settled for being grumpy, for the time being.
ELISABETH is a year behind Aaron and James, and so is not as far along in her schooling as the boys. This is her excuse (both to Aaron and herself) for not moving to Portland with her boyfriend, but in truth it has more to do with her over domineering father and some pretty hefty insecurities. She manages to maintain an upbeat attitude, however, and would certainly seem to any outside observer to have it together far more than the two young men she spends most of her time with. In reality, however, it's anybody's guess.
NADINE is the sassy and sexy "older woman" living downstairs from Aaron and James. She's right at home in Portland, and makes her living writing erotic fiction for her members-only website. She took an instant liking to both Aaron and James, but it's Aaron she's got her sights set on. She's at a point in her life where she's happy with who she is and what she's doing, and she's looking for someone to share that life with. If only Aaron weren't still hung up on that chick back in Sacramento ...
